Brief
To create an illustration of Saint Mary’s House in support of a major fundraising campaign for the renovation of this historic building.
Approach
With the client’s consent, the illustration was developed through an en plein air sketch made on site. Working directly from observation allowed the character, scale, and ageing details of the architecture to be captured accurately, while responding to the surrounding environment.
Outcome
The final illustration balances the building’s heritage and beauty with visible signs of wear, reinforcing the narrative of preservation and renewal central to the fundraising campaign.
Clients response:
“I asked for Hutch’s help when I was a trustee of the PCC of St Mary’s Church in Woodbridge. We wanted to bring attention to the dilapidated state of St. Mary’s House to help raise funds. It is a beautiful building on Market Hill in Woodbridge. Hutch created a lovely pen and ink drawing which showed the building in its historical context. You see the result and it has helped us to raise funds."
