Professional Collaboration - Oliver Houchell, at The Bartlett School of Architecture

Brief
I collaborated with an architect and senior lecturer at The Bartlett School of Architecture to co-author and illustrate an essay for an international arts and culture platform. Titled Mingled Motivations: En Plein Air Landscape Painting and Artificial Intelligence, the essay was conceived as a provocation exploring the relationship between traditional landscape painting and artificial intelligence.

Approach
The project combined written research with illustrated experimentation, using en plein air practice as a lens through which to question how embodied, observational processes might be interpreted, simulated, or misunderstood by AI systems. The illustrations operated both as visual research and as a parallel narrative to the text.

Outcome
The finished essay contributed to wider discussion around authorship, perception, and technology in contemporary creative practice, positioning illustration as a tool for critical inquiry rather than solely a representational medium.
